MP Visit to CJS

Community Collaboration Shines During MPs Visit to Crich Junior School

Ian Reid, July 2026

Last week, John Whitby MP visited Crich Junior School to witness first hand the outstanding work being done under the guidance of retiring Headteacher Chris Orridge.

The visit commenced with Chris presenting an impressive music video created by the children for the end of the term. Following this, Chris invited the children to guide John and the other guests on a tour of the school and its gardens.

The strong partnership between the school and the community was highlighted, with Clare Limb representing Transition Crich, who were instrumental in establishing Friends of Crich Junior School to support their gardening work.

Cindi Blunt from LetsGoZero and Crich Parish Community Energy showcased the school's heat pumps and the planned solar panels.

Chris acknowledged the essential support from the Governors, many of whom were present, and extended best wishes to the new Headteacher, Catherine Wheatcroft, for growing the school's environmental initiatives and community engagement.

Following the tour John remarked, “What a wonderful community and what a wonderful school. The kids gave us a fantastic tour and clearly loved being in the school.”
