Creative Crich September & October 2025 update

Our Banners of Possibility are nearly finished! The Crich community has been working very hard since June to make three banners as part of Derbyshire Makes ‘Dare to Dream’ project.

Our first banner has been created by attendees at our monthly Make, Do and Mend sessions as well as by people from the Sawmills Dare to Dream group.

The second banner has been jointly made by children from Crich Junior School and Crich Luncheon Club, and the third banner has been made by members of the recently formed Crich Community WI group.

Neighbourhood Creative Agent Clare Limb has produced the project alongside Ambergate Artist Lise Bennett.

The Dare to Dream project celebrates all the things we can be proud of in our local area, including Derbyshire’s rich heritage of making, whilst calling people to action around what needs to be protected and preserved for the future, including people, place and planet. More information about the project can be found here:

We will have finalised our 3 banners by end of October and will celebrating their completion at our November Share and Repair Café.

October sees the launch of our new ‘Crich Photography Club at the Pub’.

Following on from the success of Crich’s first photography competition in May this year, professional photographer, turned landlady, Emma Collyer and local photography enthusiast Paul Yorke are joining forces to run the club, which will meet in the Snug of The Old Black Swan on the first Monday of every month. Join them and us on 6th October for the launch of the club and take in all the entries of the ‘Capturing Natural Wonders of Crich’ photo competition whilst there. The club is free to join and donations of a £1per person will go towards the development of the club including guest speakers & competition prizes.

September’s Make, Do and Mend session, led by local residents Clare and Paul, focussed on trying out Kintsugi – a Japanese art of visibly mending cracked ceramics with gold, as well as how to make simple repairs at home (and what not to repair yourself!). Everyone had a fantastic time and went home happy and ready to mend!

October’s session is all about sustainable home energy solutions. Hosted by Marches Energy Agency, 3 local homeowners will be talking about their own home energy transformation projects. There will be a discussion at the end where you can have the chance to ask all those burning questions about solar panels, insulation & air source heat pumps and retrofitting!

Our final Make, Do and Mend session this year (20 November, 7pm, Crich Glebe Community Centre) will be all about preparations for the festive season. Come and make a decorated log centre piece for your dining table or try your hand at making a lavender bag for a homemade gift for your friends or family. Free entry, donations welcome.
