Fix it, don't ditch it!
With four Share & Repair Café events every year, there are plenty of opportunities to repair broken items, connect with local residents, seek sustainability advice and enjoy homemade goodies.
The Crich Share & Repair Café is your quarterly fix-it and swap-it hub – a place to bring broken or unwanted items and give them a second life.
Whether it’s a toaster that’s stopped working, trousers with a torn hem, or blunt garden shears – our friendly volunteer repairers are here to help.
What's more, if you've got any seed variants you'd like to share, or clothes you no longer want, please bring them along to swap or donate.
This event is more than swaps and repairs – it’s a celebration of community, creativity and care for the planet!
"I love attending the Transition Crich Share and Repair Cafe. I enjoy the inspirational stalls on themes such as wildlife, recycling, and crafts. I also enjoy the book and seed swaps, and, of course, the delicious homemade refreshments! There is always a friendly welcome at the Share and Repair Cafe, and it is great to feel part of this caring community of like-minded people!"

"I go to the Repair Cafe because it has a friendly atmosphere, and the people involved are so helpful with advice. I often meet people who I know, but also many for the first time. The excellent cafe facilities help towards this. I go mainly to find out what sort of things can be repaired (for future reference)."
- Crich resident, Alan
"I'm very worried about the climate emergency and know that huge quantities of clothes are thrown away, unnecessarily. I have skills to offer to help people keep stuff out of landfill and also to save money. I love meeting people and I particularly enjoy the skill share element - helping people to learn to mend their own things and seeing their satisfaction in their achievements. It's always a happy event. I've never seen anyone look grumpy even when we have said we can't mend something."
- Volunteer repairer, Clare
The Share & Repair Café is a hands-on expression of what Transition Crich is all about: building local resilience, reducing waste, and strengthening community connections.
By repairing rather than replacing, and sharing skills instead of consuming more, we take practical steps toward a more sustainable, low-carbon future — together.
