Creative Agent Project Update – June and July 2025
As Clare Limb ended her 9-month Peer Learning Journey with Make/Shift as a Neighbourhood Creative Agent, our project activity also concluded, with the Crich Area Photography Competition judging and presentation of awards.
With 40 entries across 3 categories, the ‘Capturing Natural Wonders of Crich’ Photography Competition attracted 18 entrants from our local community.
The panel of three judges (Andy Parkinson, Paul Yorke and Emma Collyer) said that the standard of the submissions was very high and their job of choosing the winning entries had been a hard one.
An outstanding entry came from a young person in the age 8 – 12 yrs age group. Titled ‘Majestic Stag’ this entry impressed all three judges, who with years of experience of photography between them, commended the young photographer for their skill and talent in capturing the natural wonder of the stag so brilliantly.
Following the success of the competition, there is talk of setting up a photography club in Crich. If this is of interest, please email transitioncrich@gmail.com and we will put you in touch with the organisers.
(keep reading to see Harry's stag!)

All entries, including the winners will be displayed as part of the St.Mary’s Celebration of Community Creativity, which is taking place from 2 – 4pm on 5th July as part of a thanksgiving event for the St Mary’s Well Dressing at the church.
There will also be displays of the work made during the Creative Agent Project including pieces of Rust Dyeing with Crich Youth Club and Visible Mending & Wire and Paper Flowers made by members of Crich Junior School and Crich Youth Club.
There is plenty of space to display artwork & crafts by the local community, so please bring along any home-made pieces to share.
We will be in the church from 10 – 4pm on Friday 4th July, so you can bring your projects along then, or on Saturday between 1.30 – 2pm (then you can stay and have a cuppa with us!).
On 19th June we also held our first ‘Crich Banner of Possibilities’ designing and making session at the Glebe in our regular Make, Do & Mend slot.
Facilitator Clare Limb took us through a visualising exercise about what aspects of local biodiversity, landscape & facilities we want to protect.
We had some fantastic chat about birds, butterflies, bees & wildflowers as well as the natural beauty of the area and the excellent outdoor sport & recreational facilities that we have in the local area.
Artist Lise Bennett guided the group through some of the techniques that we will be using to turn our ideas into a finished design and we all set to on making!

There will be a second session of banner making on 17th July at the Glebe from 7 – 9pm.
Everyone of all ages is welcome to come along and join in. All materials are provided, and you can even bring your own fabric and other bits and bobs to add to the pile of shared treasures!
We are working with other groups from the area on the banner including Crich Community WI, Crich Luncheon Club and Crich Juniors and aim to complete it by the end of September, ready to be displayed at a community venue near you in the autumn!
Harry's Magestic Stag! What a beauty. Come along to St Mary's Church in Crich on 5 July, 2pm to 4pm to see it in print, along with the other winning entries. There will also be a digital display of all competition entries.
