Our Action Plan
Change starts with a plan - and ours is already in motion! We've mapped out four key areas to take action for a more sustainable Crich. Discover our priorities and the steps we're taking to make real progress.

Rewild

Spaces
Priority One
- To work towards Crich area becoming litter-free through regular litter picks
- To work with AVBC to reduce verge grass cuttings to extend wildflower periods
- Establish rewilding around the local area to facilitate the re-introduction of wildlife
Priority Two
- To consider working with other local forums to establish eco-fairs
- Look at a program of environmental talks from specialists
- Regular air quality measurements and consider ways of reducing the pollution
Priority Three
- Liaise with necessary organisations and local communities re. the possibility of Hilts Quarry becoming a Nature Reserve
- Develop a Community Garden for the local area
- Start a dialogue with local farmers to develop ecological farming practices which use less pesticides. Encourage them to leave room for wildlife/wild flowers around field boundaries
- Explore the possibility of local vertical farming
- Look into alternative visitor parking solutions

Reduce Waste
Priority One
- Work with local businesses in the area to become plastic-free
- TC is an active member of the Plastic Free Network
- Work with the community to minimise food waste
Priority Two
- Look into refillable companies visiting the area on a regular basis and encouraging the community to use them
- Establish regular, local repair shops/cafes
- Enlighten the community about packaging recycling at point of sale, where available
- Publicise recyclable tape and gift wrap
Priority Three
- Raise awareness of Hot Bins and their use
- Establish a formal sharing network for everything from clothes to lawn mowers

Save
Energy
Priority One
- Encourage the community to petition the Housing Minister/Government to mandate that all new housing must come with solar panels and other environmental friendly sourced fixtures eg. heating/water
Priority Two
- Work with other community environmental groups to provide EV Charging Points within local/strategic areas
- Explore Marches Energy Charity https://mea.org.uk/
Priority Three
- Explore, with local environment groups, about demonstration model for Air Source Heat Pump
- Encourage the buying of energy-efficient white goods
- Work with community and landlords/housing associations to retro-fit old houses with ecosystems

Community Involvement
Priority One
- Organise trips to local recycling plants/depots to be better informed of current systems/procedures in place both by the council and trade
- Write a quarterly update for Crich Standard on Transition issues & initiatives for Crich Standard Magazine
- Engage with Local arts and cultural organisations to develop projects which raise awareness of TC’s campaigns and initiatives
- Hold quarterly community litter picks (in partnership with The Glebe & Parish Council)
- Invite Local Farmers to get involved in TC
- Organise regular knowledge exchanges/sharing of best practice between Transition Network groups
- Actively promote other projects of mutual importance to the local environment such as ROAR/Save Crich Chase Woods
Priority Two
- Increase connectivity in the area by mapping it for a range of users including those with mobility issues or people with mobility aids
- Establish an Environmental Hub at The Glebe where a regular ethical produce/businesses market takes place and includes eco-talks, eco-demonstrations, eco-crafts, a repair shop as well as a community resource library for all things Transition including a ‘Manual for being Green’
- Work towards getting local school children/young people/youth groups actively involved in TC campaigns/initiatives as well as establish a Junior/Youth Committee of TC
- Establish an active connection with the Well Wood in Fritchley
- Establish regular TC activities which run in the school holidays for families to join in with
- Wellbeing is a part of TC’s work (inner transition) including gender or age-specific health and wellbeing issues
Priority Three
- Ensure local footpaths in the area are clear and well-marked
- Install secure bike lock-up areas for people to feel more secure about using their bikes
- Work towards getting improved public transport links to and from the area
- Achieve great community buy-in for Transition Crich
- Collate personal pledges by locals to refill, reduce and use a zero-waste supplier and celebrate these with the whole community
- Works to get Involve Local Landlords/Housing Associations to be actively involved in TC campaigns and initiatives
- A game has been developed to decrease carbon footprint (eg Carbon City O)
